That in essence is the reason why millions are hooked on the ketogenic diet. The keto diet, a low-carb, high-fat diet, has been around for decades. It became mainstream when Dr. Robert Atkins simplified it in easy to follow steps.
Keto restricts carbohydrates such as sugar and starch and encourages consumption of foods high in fat and protein. No calories need to be counted, just count the carbs, and by drastically reducing carbohydrate intake, this helps to urge the body into a normal metabolic process known as ketosis. Ketones accumulate in the bloodstream while blood sugar levels are brought to lower levels. This in turn forces the body to break down and use fat stores as a primary fuel source.
One of the keys to keto diet is counting carbs, more specifically “Net carbs”. Net carbs are calculated by subtracting fiber and sugar alcohol from total carbohydrates. Both sugar alcohol and fiber has little or no impact on blood sugar levels.
