What’s good for the immune system?

♪ ‘Beans, beans, the musical fruit.
The more you eat, the more you toot.
The more you toot, the better you feel,
so eat your beans for every meal!’ ♪

That catchy tune has a story behind it. The reason that beans make you toot is because of the fiber in them. Releasing gas (or tooting) is really good for you because it is a sign that you are eating foods the feed the good bacteria in your colon. Gas is good, smelly gas is not so the trick is to eat lots of green vegetables high in Chlorophyll or take a Chlorophyll supplement to stop the stink!

One of the best things you can do for your immune system is to eat foods that are high in fiber. A major source of fiber is found in fruits, vegetables and beans. Vegetables and beans would be the best choice because they have less sugar than fruits. All different types of veggies are important though, so make sure to eat a wide variety.

The immune system really starts in the gut and is linked to the health of your digestive system. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is high in refined and processed foods and low in fiber which may be linked to higher chronic disease occurrences.

Why is fiber so important for your immune system? It does all of the following:

  • Helps with digestion so you feel less bloated
  • Helps with weight loss
  • Speeds up and slows down your digestive system when needed
  • Removes unavoidable toxins from your body
