Uproar Over “Biggest Loser” Winner

You win some, you lose some.  This holds true for the current winner of the “Biggest Loser” who shed over 60% of her body fat in a very short amount of time. Starting at 260lbs, she weighed in at the finale at 105 lbs. This is a HUGE transformation.  She has completely changed her body and life following the shows strict diet and training regimen.

So why all the criticism?

Many are saying that she lost “too much” and looked “sick and malnourished”.  She was criticized for being overweight and now is being criticized for being underweight. I just do not understand how our society can judge so harshly, especially when one has completely changed their life for the better. Granted, it is a game show and she was competing for money.  It is my belief that the trainers have their contestants do extreme dieting practices the last couple weeks before that final weigh in. They cut water, reduce carbs, increase cardio and have many little tricks leading into that final weigh-in.

You also must take into consideration the amount of time one is losing this weight. The contestants of the Biggest Loser are under time constraints and have a certain amount of time to lose this weight.  It is NOT realistic for the average person. We can’t take three months of our life to live on a ranch, work out three times a day and have a nutritionist on site at all times. It is just not possible.

Let’s remember that it is a game show.

The bottom line, she is happy, healthy and has CHANGED her life for the better.  My client is a great example who has shed over 140 lbs in over a year.  His co-workers and friends tell him that he is “looking too skinny” or that “he needs to stop losing”. Again, for me, why do so many feel the need to judge? Everyone has different goals so you must respect their lifestyle. He is healthy and happier than ever and setting the example for his daughter and family members.

I do feel that the winner of the Biggest Loser did go to the extreme to lose this weight and would I would NOT recommend it for everyone. My client who lost over 140 lbs took almost a year and half to lose that weight.

Be healthy, be happy and live a life that is realistic for YOU.
